Start by comparing the same project
Two roof estimates can have different prices because they include different work. Before deciding, compare the measured area, roofing materials and scope line by line. Ask each contractor to explain unclear items in writing.

A roofing “square” is 100 square feet. Ask whether a stated quantity represents measured roof area or the amount of material ordered with waste. Different roof shapes need different cuts and details, so quantity alone is not a complete price comparison.

Compare the proposed result
A lower price may be appropriate for a smaller scope. A higher price may include important work—or simply need more explanation. Ask what the finished roof will include and what concerns will remain outside the contract.
